Ekens Gassers Swap Meet 2012

Last weekend I visit Ekens Gassers Swap meet in Stockholm with my friends Stefan and Chrille.  It’s a long trip to go from where we live, a very early morning, started from home at 3.00 a.m. but it was worth it, lots of goodies as usual. This Swap has a great mixture of people, both bikers and hot-rodder’s as well the range of good old parts.

Pontiac Firebird -68

Pontiac Firebird was in 1968 offered in five separate versions and engines alternative. My buddy Dicks Firebird is the hardtop coupe version with a four-barrel 326, giving 285 horsepower. He bought and imports this car from US, it was ready to go for the road. First it have to be approved by the Swedish authority for vehicle inspection, to have a registration certificate.

Than it all started, the oil pump gave up on it´s very first trip on Swedish roads, you all know what can happen than. Now he has to find a new engine for replacement….Than it start to fail miserably and everything's gone straight to hell..... He find a lot of others to be take care of......

Dick is a real optimist as well very skillful in what he’s doing, now he working on to exchange all sheet metal on the car including widening the fenders….More to come!

Searching for a Pickup

Have been looking for an old pickup for a while, have found lots of them in the market for sale, for example this one “1940 DODGE PICKUP, all complete original, has some rust and a title”.
Believe I have to consider if this is the right one…..for me!

 

 

 

Guest mechanic from Volvo Racing Team

Hugo, guest mechanic from Volvo Racing Team, stops by the garage earlier this week. He really knows how to speed up the work, look what he achieved with a lively interest… and a monkey wrench.

Sidecar project

The Flathead -47 will be equipped with a sidecar, mentioned  earlier on this blog. The sidecar body I bought was full of Bondo made by a real optimist, who has used all the entire tricks. So I have to sanding that damned body to see what’s remains!  Not too much remained so I have to find another body. Now, one of my friends helps with the metalwork for the "new" one, still some work to do. The chassis were actually all right and are now painted….

Wonder if this project is only nostalgia, emotions, or if it is only for fun?  Will it be possible that I extend the riding season? For sure, kids like them and that will mean I will like it. As somebody said, “It’s never too late to have a happy childhood”.

I should know both negative and positive effects regarding sidecars, because I used to have a very nice Panhead 1948 with sidecar for long time. After restoration, I sold it for some years ago. Probably that is the reason way I start with this project again…Never sell anything!

No doubt, it is to RIDE a motorcycle but to DRIVE a sidecar!

Sometimes I believe the old days were easier. To find out I would like to be back in time for a couple of days and nights!!

 

 

 

Backyard Garage

There are a lot of things in life which are very important. For us who have this specific hobby the garage is one of them…. I had the opportunity to visit my friend Gustav in his garage for some weeks ago. This Garage stand out itself as well the skills, desire, experience and knowledge Gustav and his neighbor have together. I’d like to share the picture taken during the visit, of what going on here…..!   

 

 

Another Hot Rod Enthusiast!

Nils, here in his garage have the mechanical and metalworking needed skills and desire to build what I will say a dream car. In every detail, this Ford -32 roadster will be perfect. It will have influences from late 1950´s era maintaining the period-correct theme.

Look at details in the pictures…..  

The powerful engine is an -56 Y-block 312, with E-4 Isky Cam, on top a set of ECZ-G heads, equipped with Edelbrock manifolds and 3 Holley 2100 carbs. The rest of the drivetrain consists of a Ford C4 transmission. The gauges Nils will use are Auto Meters. The rear end is a Ford 9” axel with drum brakes. The front end is a 4” drop I-beam axle with disk brakes; this will be changed to drum brakes before next summer. 
 

The color of the car is called Tacoma Cream, this was an original paint for 1935-1936 Ford. 

This Rod will if everything goes the right way, be on the road in the summer of 2013.

Old Bike Swap Meet RRM MC and Jokers CC Falköping 2012

In spite of the bad weather Bikers from all over Scandinavia  show up in the Old Bike Swap Meet in Falköping.  Everyone who visited this nice event looked to be active in buying, selling and/or trading all kinds of motorcycle goodies. There was some really hard to find motorcycle parts for sale, mainly Harley up to -69 and some British.
