The Flathead UL 1947 ready to go…

During this expedition I have reflect, why I’m as crazy about this old bikes as I am.

More than one time I have noticed the project run one step back rather the other way around. Without good contacts and friends, new and old, as well the old parts I had kept in my garage for years, this bike should not have been ready…at least not in this condition.

The feeling I have now after I spent lots of time in my garage and can fire up this old bike.…is fantastic, this is more than just a hobby; it’s a way of life.  

 

Now I have to concentrate on the sidecar….!

The speedometer has been restored by Perry Ruiter, in every detail perfect….

The Flathead 1947 project has now the missing clutch.....

The works going on and now the clutch side is almost there. Today I also start to mount a very nice police siren I found on E-Bay…….The flowing lines of the siren are nice formed into a whole to the shape of the frame.

Now I have all the parts back from the painter, so it’s up to me…….!

Still waiting for the fenders and some other parts from the painter, this pics show how far I’m in the project up to now. Probably this bike will be equipped with a sidecar, in any case I find one the other week. Again I got more work to do; as usual it looks great until you start work with it.

Almost ready to be fired up, the engine is now fully assembled and waits for the rest of the bike which is with the painter at the moment.

Yes, there will be a Buddy seat mounted on this bike after all… this one is up to my understanding restored to be accurate for -47 models.

When restoring an old and classic Harley that takes a significant part of your life.

I spend a lot of time about from where and from who I can get the needed parts. More or less daily contacts with fellows I have learned to know over the years in the same hobby around …. There will be a few more pics coming soon.

Two steps forward one step back!

Two steps forward one step back.  It’s better than one step forward, two steps back.....anyhow this will not stop me from pushing my Flathead 1947 UL project  ahead….!

Some parts to my Flathead projects have been parkerized as well some spare parts.

Flathead 1947 UL project

The work to bring my old Flathead UL 1947 back on the road again has come to bee more current every day. The project started slow last winter....  

The engine as well as the gearbox has been restored by my friend JK.

The frame is now ready after a lot of repairs. So far the brakes have been totally overhauled and I have added a new sprocket to the rear drum.
